Spring 2000 saw the 75th annual running
of the Virginia Gold Cup races in The Plains. For you non-Virginian
folk, horse racing is a favorite pasttime in the Old Dominion and Gold
Cup is run every spring and fall. We wish it could be done more often,
since it's such a great party time; so much so that we often need to be
reminded that there are horse races going on! Here's me and my buddy
Ray with friends Mitzi and Lisa.
![[Party]](images/party-1.jpeg) Back
in May 2000, the Meyer folks held a party at their house for my friends
and me. Mom and Dad had a great time as hosts, meeting many of you
for the first time, and seeing some they hadn't seen in years. The
plan for 2001 is an Oktoberfest, and we're already looking forward to it!
![[Andy's Band]](images/andys-band.jpeg) Andy
Rutherford threw his annual summer get-together with plenty of good food,
good company, and good music. At left, Andy and I enjoy
a couple of beers between sets. Over on the right is Andy's band,
Evergreen (or Ingus or the Coolerators or the Hard-Core Troubadors, or
the Ever-Hard Cooleringerators, whatever ...)
In
September 2000 a bunch of Sun diving buddies went to Grand Cayman island
in the British West Indies. We were there for a whole week and I
was able to finish up the requirements for my Master Scuba Diver rating.
See
the spectacular underwater photos for yourself.

| One of my best college buddies,
Jack Mayo (center) turned the big 4-0 last year and Jack's wife Susan arranged
for a great surprise party for him. Here I am with his friend Chas
wishing him well. |
I can't believe it's been nine
years since Paul Boyer (second from left, front row) organized a paintball
outing. We're all a little older and somewhat slower, but it's nice
to know that Boyer's Destroyers can still get the testosterone flowing
and shoot up the woods as well as any other middle-aged suburban professionals.
That's me in the back row, second from the right. |

| Sun's millenial holiday party
was another great casino night, this time at the Ritz Carlton at Tyson's
Corner. Blackjack is my favorite casino game, but by the end of the
night, my friend Julie (next to me), a novice to the game, was teaching
me some things about how to win big at it! |
Last year's family night for
the area Sun employees and their families saw my fourth year as jolly ol'
Saint Nick. The kids enjoyed games, crafts, good food, and a picture
on Santa's knee. Here's me with my elves, Judy and Vicki. |

| Please join me
in welcoming the latest White Spot (North) additions! On the left
is Luke Boyer, born at 6:51AM on February 4th, 2001 and weighing in at
a solid 8 pounds, 1 ounce. Next to him is Jeffrey Alan McLean, Jr.,
who entered the world at 8:44PM on May 11, 2001 at a hefty 7 pounds, 3
ounces. We'll have them drinking beer and dancing to the Dead in
no time. |
